The camp is sited in a shady setting in a grove of Acacia trees within the Ol Kinyei Conservancy, in Maasai Mara. The Ol Kinyei conservancy covers an area of 18,000 acres. The land belongs to the Maasai community who set it aside for the purposes of wildlife conservation. Ol Kinyei is renowned for its unspoilt and breath-taking scenery with diverse terrain offering on one hand open savannah plains and rolling hills on the other. There is a resident lion pride of over 20 animals and several leopards also have their territories within the conservancy and are often sighted by guests on evening or early morning drives. Cheetahs are frequently seen and it is not rare to come across large numbers of giraffe as well as Cape buffalo and elephants. The wildebeest migration also passes through Ol Kinyei when herds from the eastern plains of Loita join the migration to the Mara Reserve.

The Gamewatchers Adventure Camp offers the same high quality wildlife safari experience provided by the top-end safari camps, with game viewing in 4x4 safari vehicles escorted by top class Maasai guides and spotters in an exclusive wildlife conservancy in the Mara far away from the tourist minibuses. This is at a hugely reduced price, achieved by staying in a more basic adventure camp, which is more like “real camping” instead of the luxury accommodation of the expensive up-market tented lodges.

Accommodation is in small dome tents which accommodate 2 adults (or can fit one child with 2 adults).  The tents are 6 ft high and 10ft x 10ft square, and are insect-proof. Guests bring their own sleeping bag and a towel (or one can hire these at a small cost per day) and sleep on the comfortable mattress on the tent floor. Each tent has its own bathroom in a cubicle located behind the tent with flash toilet, wash basin and safari shower.

Service staff at the camp will wash up, clean, heat water for showers cook and serve the food. An experienced safari chef is at the camp to freshly bake the bread and prepare all the meals. Food is delicious and of the same quality as any luxury safari camp and is included in the price. Mineral water is provided daily at camp and on game drives and walks. Other drinks are not included, however, beer, house wine and soft drinks can be purchased at the camps, and there is no corkage fee for bringing a bottle of your favorite spirit.

The camp can be reached from Nairobi by daily scheduled light aircraft flights from Wilson Airport Nairobi to the nearby Naboisho Ol Seki airstrip. While at camp all safari transport for game drives is in shared 4x4 open-sided safari vehicle with expert guide.

Itinerary

Duration: 3 nights / 4 days

Day 1:
Board the flight at Wilson airport to Siana or Ol Seki airstrip. You will be met at the airstrip and transferred to Ol Kinyei adventure camp in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy. You will be shown to your tent followed by lunch and then relax in camp before heading out on an afternoon game drive in the conservancy to see some of the wildlife for which the Mara is famous. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2:
Wake up at dawn and enjoy an early game drive in the conservancy on the lookout for the big cats, returning to camp for a late breakfast followed by an escorted nature walk and then lunch. In the afternoon enjoy another gamedrive in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy with a night drive as you head back to camp driving in the dark with a spotlight for the chance to see the nocturnal animals. Dinner and overnight at camp in Ol Kinyei.

Day 3:
An early breakfast followed by a full day of game viewing in the Mara Reserve, taking a picnic lunch. Return to the camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight

Day 4:
After breakfast, enjoy a final short early morning game drive in the conservancy as you make your way to the airstrip for your morning flight to Nairobi.
